Concentrating on media’s role in peacebuilding and conflicts, another aim is to bring together youth who are
interested in media tools in Europe, South Caucasus, and the Mediterranean to share their realities and
experiences related to working with these tools.

The training will bring together 28 young participants, trainers and multipliers in a 3 phase project:
• Phase I (Sept 2-6, 2012)
Part 1 (Training Course - content/discussion) - the first 4 days of the TC will be dedicated to discussions,
group work, and sharing of experience and realities in Peace and Media. Participants will learn (basic and
broader) definitions about different concepts such as, the culture of peace, media and tools to use it more
effectively. Other issues to also be discussed are; media freedom in a democratic society; right to access
information; freedom of expression; trust of media today, censorship and participants´ point of view about
censorship.

• Phase 2 (Sept 7-9, 2012) (Training Course - hands-on/practical application)
- the last 3 days will be a more hands-on and practical approach to the topic. In the second part, participants
will be working on their ideas for the exhibit (final output), and will be finalising their plans for the follow-up
traveling exhibit after the TC.

• Phase 3 (from Sept 9, 2012)(Follow-up, traveling exhibit)
- at the end of the TC with all of these photos, the exhibit will be converted into a roaming/traveling exhibit
to the partner countries.

FOCUS ON MEDIA TOOLS
A specific focus on one of the media tools, “photography” will be highlighted, and youth will work on an
exhibition to express their own concept of freedom of expression in media and peace. This final output of
the training will be converted into a traveling exhibition to be hosted by the partner organizations after
the training course, and will run for 6 months.
Use of photography: Aside from discussing the overall analysis of media’s role in peacebuilding and
conflicts, the second part of the training will be handled using photography as a means of expression.
Participants will have an opportunity to express themselves in a more artistic and creative way by reflecting
on, and producing their own concept of freedom of expression and peace. It will enable youth to have a
hands-on and practical way of expressing their opinions about the topic in a more innovative and artistic way
– and to “scream their silence.”
