“Active Citizenship in a Changing Society Training Course

Call for Participants for " Active Citizenship in a Changing Society: Training for Young Peace Builders " Training Course in Groningen, The Netherlands

Date : The training course will take place from 20 August – 26 August (travel days excluded)

Place : Groningen, The Netherlands

Number of Participants from DNB: 2

Idea & Objectives :
In both Europe and in the Mediterranean Region, young people often don’t feel very much involved in their societies. Minorities are being discriminated and unemployment rates are high. People feel their ‘rights’ are not being respected and at the same time, they are not communicating with each other. In the end, these feelings could end up in (new) conflicts.

The Mediterranean Region recently saw important changes, after the ‘Arab Awakening’. This offers a new start for youngsters, to contribute to their local realities. Although most countries in Europe experienced multiple years of peace, many youngsters are dealing with the same kind of problems.
This 7-day Training Course will gather 24 young participants from both Europe and the Mediterranean Region, to start up an intercultural dialogue about the meaning of active citizenship and a peaceful society. What can youngsters do, to shape their own future? Professional trainers will set up several non-formal educational activities, such as brain storms, presentations and role-playing games. The participants will be highly responsible for their own learning process, with a focus on Skills, Knowledge and Attitudes (SKA’s). After the project, the participants will have a clear idea about how they can contribute to a peaceful, inclusive society.
